Skool of Thought – 30 Years of Breaks 1991 – 2021

Talk about a journey, a 30 year journey. It’s great to see Skool of Thought back again in the breaks scene and here he is with a mix of breakbeat tunes from 1991 to 2021 with a breakbeat track for every year in between. From the very early Shades of Rhythm up to Franky Wah. Well worth a listen for any breaks head out there.

Skool Of Thought – Heavyweight Breaks 2020

“Heavyweight Breaks 2020 is a snapshot of the hottest bass fueled breaks released over the past 12 months mixed by myself Skool of Thought.

Those of you who have been following me will know I released the first Heavyweight Breaks mix CD on SuperCharged back in 2002. The approach for that mix then is the same now – 10 extremely carefully selected tracks which showcase the very best of the scene.

The trick for me has always been to select tracks that are bass-heavy without being tear-out and uplifting without being cheesy.” – SOT

Krafty Kuts & Skool Of Thought – Kiss 100 FM Breakbeat Show – 19.1.2002

Starting back in 1998 (I think) was the Kiss 100 FM Breakbeat Show hosted by Danny McMillan a true advocate of the breakbeat genre from it’s early beginnings and who even had his own label. This mix from 2002 is from Krafty Kuts & Skool Of Thought who at the time ran a night in Brighton UK called Supercharged, a place where the now dons of breakbeat used to play every weekend. The Supercharged night soon turned into a label and saw some of the best Nuskool Breaks tunes of the day. This is a pretty cool mix when tunes were a lot more simple.

Skool Of Thought – Heavy Weight Breaks 2002

Starting the Supercharged label along side Krafty Kuts (which was also the name of a club night in Brighton, UK) Skool Of Thought put out a ground breaking mixed CD compilation called “Heavy Weight Breaks”. With various top artists at that time highlighting the sounds of Nuskool Breaks. Although you can still purchase this CD through Discogs it’s now a FREE download through Skool Of Thoughts Soundcloud.

Skool of Thought – Triple J The Club – 30.5.2009

Lloyd Seymour aka Skool Of Thought was a British Breakbeat Producer/DJ based originally in Brighton UK. Staring off his career at a night called Supercharged in Brighton along with the likes of Ed Solo and Krafty Kuts. Currently based in Australia, Skool of Thought has been a key contributor to ‘nu skool’ breaks scene since it was born into the late nineties. He was driving force of ‘Against the Grain’ and ‘SuperCharged’ record labels, SOT is widely considered to be an ambassador of all things Breaks and Bass.

This mix from Australia’s Triple J Radio from 2009 and is a good indicator of his talent and passion as a DJ and Producer.
